PLANTS OF THE WESTCHESTER BLUFFS

California Rose at the spring seep in the bluffs below Loyola Marymount University

The Kentwood Bluffs (east end of Westchester Bluffs) before development of homes in 1990

The Complete Westchester bluffs list:

This is for only the portions of the Westchester Bluff slopes and canyons that are between Lincoln Blvd and Centinela Avenue, and between Cabora Rd. and the top of the bluff. This survey does not include the slopes downhill of Cabora Rd. because they are owned by Playa Vista and were covered in the surveys in our Playa Vista area D list. The survey includes plants that were once on the blufftops; however, they were developed during the 1990’s and the only unpaved areas left are the bluff slopes and canyons.

ABBREVIATIONS MEAN STUDIES CAME FROM:

HAC—Hughes Aircraft headquarters EIR, surveys from 1982, now known as LMU University Hall

LMU—LMU Leavey campus EIR dated 1989, located between HAC HQ and old LMU campus to the east

KW—two Kentwood bluffs housing tracts EIR, surveys from 1984, known as the Dunbarton/Catellus homes and the UCLA tract

NOTE: Kentwood bluffs before-development lists are incomplete, and re-planting lists do not include the slopes downslope of Cabora Rd. that were replanted by Playa Vista.
